About The Campaign

Our mission is to raise $2.7 million to create The Building Block Family Hub—a single, vibrant community space with licensed child care, expanded food security programs, training facilities, mental-health supports, and an outdoor play area.

Since 1995, Our Kids Count has been a trusted, grassroots partner for Thunder Bay families—offering community kitchens, emergency food cupboards, licensed child care, counselling, and more. We’ve seen how, when parents have the right tools and support, children flourish with confidence, leadership, and joy.

    • Today, 1 in 5 children in our city—and nearly half of Indigenous kids—live with the daily stress of poverty and food insecurity.

    • Our programs welcomed over 5,000 unique families in 2024 alone, resulting in more than 20,000 visits for meals and care.

    • A Unified Hub: We’re raising $2.7 million to renovate and expand our aging facilities at 704 McKenzie and 735 Simpson into one welcoming block of services.

    • More Than Walls: This campaign is about creating safe spaces where children can laugh and learn, parents feel understood, and neighbours become friends.

    • To keep our programs flexible, accessible, and cost-effective—so every family can get the help they need, when they need it.

    • To partner with local organizations and generous donors to ensure no one is left behind.
